Watercolour Challenge' returns - on Channel 5

The beloved Watercolor Challenge , a 'feel good' afternoon cult classic, will return to our UK screens next Monday 17th January 2022 at 4:00pm with 20 episodes.

If anything survives Channel 4, which aired four episodes between 1998 and 2001, it will likely run longer on the "must" channels. I'm a big fan, but I often disagree with the judges!

They change

This is the main change.
  • Every week there are four amateur artists, all painting the same scene in five different locations (so no new artists per episode, paint on Fridays!). I think it's fair to consider that sometimes good artists can't win an episode because they have a theme they don't like.
  • It will be on channel 5 , not channel 4
  • Verne Britton plays the long-lost girlfriend, Hannah Gordon. Alongside this is an excellent article about a new show where Verne Britton is returning to TV to host the Watercolor Challenge .
  • This software is developed by TwoFour, part of ITV Studios.

main feature

The goal is to make
It combines artist skills, tips from art lovers, stunning scenery, and a daily dose of competition.
  • 20 episodes aired over 4 weeks - 5 episodes per week
  • It airs every day at 4pm , making it the perfect show for a particularly off-season, live or on-demand.
  • The episodes were filmed in a beautiful part of the country , and the setting is often very complicated. These places:
    • yorkshire
    • southern whales
    • Divonic
    • corn wall
  • Four artists compete for time to paint the most beautiful landscapes in the UK . They were given only three hours per plate.
“Sometimes they spend three hours in the rain, cold and wind, but sometimes we give them a 15-minute break,” he said. In the first episode of Scarborough Beach in North Yorkshire, several artists thwarted their first attempt.

"I think it takes courage. Everything happens around you. Some people don't do it in the first episode, but in the second they gain confidence and soon they will start again."
  • Each week a new professional artist appears to direct the images and then rate them at the end of each episode. Veteran warrior and professional artist Eddie Wright serves as a mentor and judge on Yorkshire Wake. I heard about the new show from Lisa Takahashi ( Facebook ), a mentor and judge from Devon.
