Review: Episode 4 Landscape Artist of the Year 2022 - Eden Project Gardens

The fourth episode of Landscape Artist of the Year , released in early 2022, was shot last summer at Terrace Gardens for the Eden Project.

This episode is difficult for me.

I did not like any of the fiery pictures, although I did like some fake pictures. You will be surprised when I tell you what was the best photo of that day.

I did not understand the reason for choosing an actor , which contradicts the criteria used in other episodes.

The most important thing for me is to return to the "first principles". This year's artist competition is LANDSCAPE .

  • It is not about fear, anxiety, abstraction, chairs or signs , but scenes .
  • And each episode is about a very specific PLACE և I think all or most of the images offered should give me a real 'place feel', but it և will show how people use the media և how they create it. approached works. art և how did they guess?

Judges also talk a lot about things that have little to do with the landscape, very little about things that create a good landscape.

I said that. So I'm going to watch it now. To be honest, I could stop now և saying everything I wanted to say about this episode.

Episode 4. The Eden Project - Terrace Gardens

Location - The fourth episode was Garden Terrace in the Eden Project.

  • They have deep terraces, planted in horizontal strips along the terraces.
  • There was so much green that at one point in the program this species was called "50 shades of green".
There are biome cases with body suits.

The weather

Sometimes it happens that the production team does not think enough about what the air / light does "externally" in different seasons / months / during the day, that is, they do not think about what it will look like when the light appears. on high gray և same without sunlight as it happens most of the day in this episode. Or they may not get enough advice from people who know the place well. (that is, they do not want or ask for advice, but the advice is not good enough).

inside view

In the afternoon the sun began to rise to the side, and then the sky created a more interesting contrast with the vegetation, illuminating it so that the different terraces were more clearly distinguished in color and tone.

Most of it used to be a big green wall because of the equal light in the morning, but that changed when the sun rose in the afternoon.

Artists:

The artists lined up to announce the shortlist
It should be noted that not all the artists of the departments applied to participate.

I think this applies more to those who have a unique և / or different way of creating art.
Like many, I was isolated for many hours during the epidemic, which gave me time to return to my artistic roots. I studied the collage with paint, pencil, mixed tools, crystal ornaments. I have exhibited my work on the websites of art galleries and now I am combining it with a couture shop. At the beginning of last summer, I was contacted to participate in the "Landscape Artist of the Year" TV show, and I gladly accepted the invitation. (one of the artists: see which one you can guess)

Professional artists

  • Elizabeth Besant ( Saatchi , Instagram) is an artist և modeler who has created collages on paper from articles in Womans' Weekly magazine . Poor quality paper is easily torn. the world sees it differently. (She is an artist who has an impressive career as both a painter and a designer, as well as a wedding and fashion designer .)
  • Thomas McGregor ( Instagram ) is an artist, engraver who lives and works in East London
  • Son Lin Eyebrow ( Instagram ) - The iconic artist of Malaysia. In 2021 he graduated from Lida University with a degree in Fine Arts. He has an interesting story about his experience on Instagram. She wears brown underwear covered with a gray layer. He painted a lone tree with oil paint for his presentation. The color finds something disturbing.
  • Stephanie Troon ( Facebook | Instagram ) is a British artist who studied art at the University of Salford և graduated in 2004. He currently lives and works in Manchester, England. Wear և remove oil flakes while destroying և creating.
  • Susan Isaac is a professional artist from Nottinghamshire. He "works mainly in oil-free figurative style; from time to time he melts into the abstract elements of his works."
  • Hugh Dunfood Wood ( Facebook | Instagram | Twitter ) Ruskin School of Art, Oxford University; The artist lives in the Royal Shakespeare Society, as well as in the Globe Theater in London, and then in the Bermuda Museum of Art. He lives in Dorset, but he lives in Brazil, in Tahiti, he likes bright colors. Works very quickly on acrylic ելի pastels, but does not like the color green. I like the landscape page on his site

Actors with buta

It seemed to me that the wrong artists were enjoying this episode. They will, of course, be packaged anyway, in any weather. They have also shown that they are very advanced in the use of tools and equipment.

In many ways, I would like to dedicate this episode to more fake artists.

Wildlife artists - in the gardens near the biomes
- with complete dexterity in which direction they are standing, what they are painting

Material:

Wallpaper - Avoid picture sizes.

The interesting thing was that, unlike the other episodes, there were VERY beautiful scenes.

I was intrigued by the fact that the production team created this episode as an amazing painting competition to get the best great artist.

The documents contained the following comments from the judges
  • platform with dominant diagonals և strong contrast
  • very lively և colorful palette for drawing a wooden tunnel in the woods
  • Collage images from a magazine - created by someone who is very good at creating
  • A large truck on which a person stands, combining abstract horses with the interesting use of light
  • A picture of a very beautiful monochrome portrait tree
  • Intricate drawings of deleted colors
  • A scene like the German expressionist painting
It was a solid wall of many different paintings. This raises great hopes among the judges

At first, it looked like paintings by artists who rarely left their workshops .
